PIE is a cloud-based building intelligence platform. Using various data sources that can be integrated into the platform, PIE calculates the position of people and occupancy inside a building. The primary data source of PIE is WiFi. PIE connects to your existing wireless network and uses the access points inside the building to determine the signal strength of all WiFi enabled devices. These devices can, but don’t have to be connected to the network. By measuring the differences in signal strength, PIE can accurately determine the position of these devices. Additionally, PIE’s smart algorithms translate the number of devices into the number people and their respective positions.
PIE integrates all types of sensor data. Whether these are beacons, workspace sensors, motion detectors or access control systems, PIE can integrate them. Let us know which type of sensors you would like to integrate.
PIE is compatible with the network technology of both Cisco and HP Aruba Networks. PIE is also actively being supported by the major network vendors such as Cisco and Aruba Networks, for which Lone Rooftop has acquired the status of Preferred Solution Partner. Additionally, Lone Rooftop has established partnership with IT Infrastructure specialists such as BT and Axians, who are actively supporting the implementation of PIE.

Lone Rooftop has established partnership with renowned IT vendors such as BT and Axians, who are actively supporting the implementation of PIE. These partners are being trained and certified to officially implement PIE. We are always open for new potential partners to join our growing ecosystem. Contact us to further discuss the options.
PIE and privacy
An automated script anonymises all data before this is processed and stored in PIE. This method ensures that data can never be traced back to an individual person and assures that PIE is fully compliant with privacy legislations.
“Because of the anonymizing script of Lone Rooftop, data cannot be traced to any one person so we are in accordance with privacy legislation and regulations”—Joris Fortuin, Head of Integrated Facility Management, Wageningen UR
Does PIE affect the performance of my wireless network?
No. PIE only uses the ‘listening mode’ of the access points and therefore doesn’t impact the bandwidth of your network.
In which cloud does PIE run?
The PIE Cloud is being hosted in the Amazon AWS Cloud in Ireland. All data stored there is guaranteed to remain within the EU. Physical Security to the data is being handled by Amazon as well, ensuring the highest safety standards and complying with existing data security and privacy legislations. Alternatively, PIE can also be hosted by Cloud VPS within the Netherlands.
Access to the data in PIE can be granted through the API. This means that processed data can be consumed in a standardised format through the API access.
PIE for developers
PIE offers a platform for developers. There are three APIs available that provide access to the data in PIE.
- Historic API. Providing all historical data of 1 minute and older.
- Present API. Providing real-time data, e.g. all data that is less than a minute old.
- Future API. Providing all predictive occupancy data from our prediction engine.
